I’m going to say it again, bacon goes with everything. Not only does it go well with everything, it improves everything as well. Well almost, but we’ll get to that a bit later. After making a batch of fantastic bacon cookies, I started thinking: “Is there anything bacon does not improve?” I began formulating a rough list of all the things that bacon does improves and the list is virtually endless. Who doesn’t love a cheeseburger? Add bacon, and who can say it doesn’t improve? Scallops can be prepared and be absolutely delicious. Wrap bacon around those things-instant improvement. Add bacon to a salad, immediately it’s tasty and unhealthy. My favorite sandwich- turkey avocado and bacon– if you take away the bacon, you might as well just forget the sandwich altogether. Chocolate covered bacon? I’m there.

But, where does it end? This takes a lot more thought. One would instantly think of fruits or vegetables. Bananas might fit the bill until we look to the Elvis Sandwich: bacon, peanut butter and sliced bananas. What about apples? Wrap some bacon around some apple slices and tell me that doesn’t sound appetizing. Vegetables all can be improved by the addition of bacon. Bacon wrapped asparagus, chopped bacon with green beans, bacon in salads. All vegetables are a thumbs up with bacon.

So, what exactly doesn’t go with bacon? My list is a short list, one that inevitably will grow, but here it is:

Things that bacon does not improve:

  1. Cereal with milk, plain and simple, they just don’t go.
  2. Hard candy, I don’t know why- it just doesn’t work
  3. Beverages of any type. I’ve heard of bacon infused vodka, the guy that came up with it should have read this list first.
  4. Fruity candy- like Starburst, really does that even sound appetizing?
  5. Anything with mint- just imagine it, or don’t, it’s not a great thought
  6. Any type of citrus- oranges, lemons, grapefruit, kumquats- none of these will work at all.
  7. Scarves– though it does look tasty, but a definite fashion faux pas.
